Maybe I should have called this tribe "Russian Symbolistic Cinema" or something along those lines... Alexander Sokurov (sokurov.spb.ru/island_en/mnp.html) is another director well worth mentioning. Unfortuately his work is rather difficult to access in the US :-( His movie Days of Eclipse is an amazing piece of art. Another fine example is Sergei Paradjanov (www.hal-pc.org/~questers/...ANOV.html).

Fri, February 6, 2004 - 4:32 AMParadjanov's "Sayat Nova (The Color of Pomegranates)" is amazing.
If you haven't already, Nayeli, czech him out!!`';o)
It's like a kodacolor psychedelic Ukranian folktale of epic proportions, truly incredible stuff - prolly make you want to learn a Russian jig or two..

Wed, February 18, 2004 - 12:39 PMp.s. I just bought Mother and Son on DVD, it's pure magic as far as I'm concerned. I have his Days of Eclipse on video, but unfortunately on VHS PAL... need to convert that some day soon!

they seem to have every russian and former soviet title that's available, and they have many of them accessible via streaming.
i can only visit this site once a month, i spend way too much money there. luckily though i'll be in moscow next week and can stock up on movies there a little more cheaply :) -

Tue, June 8, 2004 - 10:41 PMWhispering Pages, my all time fav sokoruv film! Based on 19th c. russian lit - gogol + dostoevsky mostly. Totally surreal and compelling suicide leaps.
